Karyn Greer Biography
Karyn Greer is an American ten-time Emmy award-winning anchor working for WSB-TV where she serves as an evening anchor at 5 pm. She joined the WSB-TV family in September 2022, and prior to joining WSB, she worked at WGCL/CBS46.
Greer attended Aquinas Dominican High School where she graduated with a diploma. Later in 1980, she joined the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Speech communication and Rhetoric/ Broadcast journalism in 1984. For over three decades, she has served as an anchor and investigative reporter in the Atlanta market. In addition, she is well known for being involved in the community as she has served as a host of fundraising events all over Georgia for Alzheimer’s, breast cancer, and other events.
Furthermore, she is a past president of the Atlanta Press Club and as of the moment, she is a Board member of the Governors for the National Academy of Television, Arts & Sciences. Over the years, Karyn has received 10 Southeast Emmy awards, a Salute to Excellence award from the National Association of Black Journalists, and two awards from the Atlanta Association of Black Journalists. She is also a member of; the Magnolia chapter of The Links Inc, on the board of Pebble Tossers Inc, a charter member of the Greater North Atlanta Chapter of Jack and Jill of America Inc, and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc among many others.
While serving as a journalist, Greer has received many awards that have honored her for both her professional work and community contributions. She has repeatedly been named as one of Atlanta’s 100 Women of Influence by the Atlanta Business League and she was featured as a powerhouse in Who’s Who in Black Atlanta. From August 1984 to January 1986, she worked at WICD-TV where she served as an anchor and reporter. Later on, Greer joined WCSC-TV where she worked for three years as the weekend anchor and reporter till January 1989, when she left the station.
In addition, Karyn served as the 6 pm and 11 pm weeknight anchor while she worked at WGNX where she worked for almost 11 years. Furthermore, in October 1999, she joined WXIA-TV in Greater Atlanta Area where she served as a news anchor till March 2015, when Karyn left the station, Furthermore, Karyn also worked at CBS46 for 7 years. She joined the station in 2015, as a full-time morning anchor a position she held till March 2022. Later in June 2015, Greer began serving as an investigative reporter and also served as a community engagement manager till March 2022, when she left the station.
