Karen Borta is an American regional Emmy award-winning anchor who is currently working at CBS 11. She joined the KTVT news team in 1995. In addition, she previously worked at KCEN-TV in Waco, KRBK-TV in Sacramento, and WTVT-TV in Tampa where she served as an anchor and reporter.

In her career as a journalist, she has received many awards such as; the Association of Women Journalists’ Vivian J. Castleberry Award, the Press Club of Dallas Katie Awards, the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters Awards, and a regional Emmy Award. In addition, she was also named a Legend of North Texas Journalism, the industry’s prestigious lifetime excellence award by the Press Club of Dallas in 2019.
She attended the University of Texas at Arlington where she graduated proudly. She is also a member of the UTA Alumni Association. The UTA’s “Distinguished Alumni Service Award” was awarded to her in 2003. Furthermore, she has received recognition for her service to the community from numerous charitable and civic organizations such as; A.W.A.R.E. (Alzheimer’s Women’s Association for Resources and Education), the Baylor Sammons Breast Center, Cook Children’s Medical Center, and Mi Escuelita.
Furthermore, she is dedicated to finding a cure for breast cancer, and not long ago, she also gained interest in finding the cure for type 1 diabetes, after her youngest child’s diagnosis in 2015. In the 2000 Komen Dallas Race for the Cure, she was the Honorary Co-Chair. In addition, in the same year, she also received a Soul Award and a Macy’s “Heart for her work in the fight against breast cancer.
Additionally, she also received the inaugural “Commitment to the Cure” award in 2005. Whenever she can find time, she volunteers with both the Dallas and Greater Fort Worth-Arlington chapters of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. During her leisure time, she enjoys cheering on her daughter’s Volleyball team, spending time with her family, playing tennis, and reading.
