Justin Kollar Biography
Justin Kollar is an American traffic anchor working for CBS4 as a morning traffic anchor on This Morning a position he took up in 2022. He joined the CBS4 News team in April of 2021 as a reporter.
West Michigan is Kollar’s native home and during his teenage days, he put his passion for journalism into practice after knocking on the door of his hometown newspaper looking for a job. For his high school, education, he attended Western Michigan Christian High School where he proudly graduated. Later on, Kollar joined Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois where he studied journalism and graduated in 2015. In addition, while studying at the University, he had his first on-air experience, as the host of a talk radio show on Shine. FM. In addition, Justin then joined the University of Missouri-Columbia where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in journalism.
Prior to joining CBS4, he worked for Nexstar affiliate WOOD-TV8 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. While Justin worked at WOOD-TV8, he covered events and news along the Lake Michigan shoreline. During his reporting days, he provided important information during the; heartbreaking riots engulfing the city streets of Grand Rapids, the collapse of the Edenville Dam, and the threat of rising waters on the banks of the Great Lakes. For these works, he earned an Emmy nomination and appearances on national Television.
Furthermore, Kollar did hours-long live coverage of the riots following the deaths of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd in the summer of 2020, and for his coverage, he won an Edward R. Murrow Award. Prior to his graduation from the University of Missouri, he worked for KOMU-TV in Columbia, Missouri where he assisted in shedding light on; the removal and relocation of Confederate monuments, former Gov. Eric Greitens’ sudden resignation, and large-scale sporting events including the Texas Bowl in 2017.
During Justin’s free time, he enjoys signing up for a local 5k, barking for the Cleveland Browns during football season, going on hikes throughout Central Indiana with his wife, working on his pop-up trailer, and Fishing as he has been awarded the Michigan Master Angler award the past four consecutive years.
