Jummy Olabanji is an American eight-time Emmy-winning anchor working for NBC 4 as a morning co-anchor of News4 Today. She joined the NBC 4 team in July 2019, after previously working for WNBC-TV.
Fairfax County is her native home and she spent the better part of her life in Virginia. She attended Westfield High School in Chantilly where she earned a diploma and later studied at Virginia Tech where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in mass communication and media studies in May 2006. Later, she joined Gonzaga University, earning a Master of Arts in communication and media studies in May 2011.
Jummy began her journalism career at NBC4 as an intern. Over the years, she has worked for stations in New York City, Norfolk, and Charlottesville. For her outstanding work as a journalist, she has been honored with; two Virginia Associated Press Awards, two national Edward R. Murrow Awards for breaking news anchor coverage, and eight EMMY Awards.
In addition, she is a huge advocate for organ donation and is a member of the board of directors of the National Kidney Foundation. Furthermore, Olabanji is also a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and the National Association of Black Journalists, The Links, Incorporated.
