Julio Gaby Acevedo is an American reporter working for NBC 4 as a field reporter seen on weekdays at 4 pm, 5 pm, and 6 pm. He joined the WNBC team in November 2018.
Gaby was at the forefront of the Telemundo 47 and NBC 4 New York coverage of Puerto Rico’s post-Maria recovery from their San Juan bureau. His coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic was a key component of NBC 4 New York’s award with the prestigious Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award in January 2021. In addition, the National Puerto Rican Day Parade Committee honored Julio as an “Ambassador” for the 2018 parade in New York City, for his devotion to journalistic excellence and post-Maria coverage.
In November 2018, Acevedo was feted by Comite Noviembre for his service contributions to the recovery process of Puerto Rico. Before Acevedo joined NBC 4, New York, he worked in local radio and television in Puerto Rico for over ten years. Julio has served as the news correspondent for the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee in Río de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Summer Games and in the London 2012, as well as the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games for Telemundo. Furthermore, Julio was a member of the Puerto Rico Men’s Volleyball National Team. He attended Colegio Marista de Guaynabo in Puerto Rico where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree.
