Julie Carey Biography
Julie Carey is an American journalist working for NBC 4 as the Northern Virginia Bureau Chief. She joined the NBC 4 team in 1992.
Carey’s reports have enabled her to travel all over the Commonwealth inclusive of Richmond where she covered; the general assembly, the governor, and every election since 1993. On regular occasions, she is called upon to take part in political debates involving Virginia candidates. In addition, she has done extensive reporting on issues of regional interest, such as; child abuse, sex offenders, and the integration of women into the Virginia Military Institute.
Julie provided daily coverage of the Kenneth Starr grand jury investigations in the late 1990s, and the impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton. Furthermore, she has also served as the lead reporter on a number of high-profile local trials, such as sniper suspect Lee Malvo and George Huguely. Before she joined News4, she served as a reporter for KCRG-TV in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where she served her career, WTHR-TV in Indianapolis, and KSDK-TV in St. Louis.
Iowa is her native home and she attended Indiana University where she graduated with a degree in journalism. In addition, she is an active volunteer in the Alexandria Public Schools and in her church.
