Judy Hsu is an American Emmy Award-winning anchor who is currently working at ABC7 Chicago. She serves as the 4 pm and 6 pm anchor at the station. In addition, she joined the ABC7 team in 2001 as the weekday morning anchor from 4.30 AM to 7 AM.

She also served as the host of Newsviews which airs on Sunday mornings and offers unique perspectives from Chicago area newsmakers as they address local and national topics pertinent to our community. She is also the host of Asian Influences which is a half-hour program that highlights extraordinary contributions by Chicagoans of Asian-Pacific American descent while examining issues impacting the community.

Windy City is her native home and this is where she also attended elementary school. When she was 11 years old, her family relocated from Chicago to Taiwan. She has resided in Chicago’s Chinatown to Rogers Park, Morton Grove, and Illinois where she attended the University of Illinois. While at ABC 7, she has been part of every major story either reporting in the neighborhoods or anchoring from the news desk.

Furthermore, she has also reported live from the White House for ABC7 covering her one-on-one interview with President Barack Obama just before he left the Oval Office. While she was in California, she was one of the youngest reporters to fly with the Blue Angels and covered the O.J. Simpson verdict live from the L.A. courthouse.

In addition, she has received many Emmy awards including awards for breaking news coverage and for her work on ABC 7’s programming specials Asian Influences, and the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival. She has been awarded almost two dozen Emmy nominations as a news anchor including Outstanding Performance. Previously, she worked at KFMB-TV in San Diego, California where she served as the weekday anchor of the 4 pm newscast. She also did serve as a general assignment reporter and weekend anchor at KFMB.

Since she relocated to Chicago, she has worked with many charities throughout the region highlighting issues important to local families. Furthermore, she serves as the chair of the Advisory Board for Chicago’s Chinese American Service League and leads voice in the American Cancer Society’s annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk and the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement. In addition, she was also honored to join the Human Services Advisory Council and the Community Memorial Foundation’s Regional Health in the western suburbs, and in 2017, she was named a Woman of Distinction.

Taipei, Taiwan is her native home, and she attended the University of Illinois, where she graduated with a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism. Hsu started her journalism career at WPGU-FM which is the campus radio station. She was able to secure her first television job at WCIA in Champaign following her internship with legendary Chicago anchor Walter Jacobson.
