Jovana Lara is an American Emmy- winning anchor and reporter working for ABC 7 as a weekday morning anchor at 11 am and 5 pm and community reporter. She joined ABC 7 in 2000, after previously working at KNSD.

Lara was brought up in Glendale and her family emigrated from Cuba during her childhood days. She attended Holy Family High School, Glendale where she graduated with a high school diploma. Despite the fact that she always had an interest in broadcasting, Jovana attended Loyola Marymount University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1988.
Later on, Jovana began her career at KESQ in Palm Springs where she served as a reporter for a year before being promoted to the weekend anchor position. She wanted to sharpen her skill in reporting thus she took a second reporting job for the Orange County News Channel. Lara worked for both Palm Springs and Orange County until she secured a job at KNSD in San Diego as a reporter.
For a story about a small village near Tijuana washed away in the 1997 mudslides of El Nino, she won an Emmy during her first year at the station. She also received Emmy nominations for her two other stories that year and the San Diego Press Club awarded her commendations. In addition, since Lara joined ABC 7, she has won four Emmy awards for her co-host role on Vista L.A.
While serving as a reporter, she has covered everything including breaking news such as; crimes, fires, and natural disasters. Jovana traveled to Guatemala and Mexico where she covered immigration, earthquakes, and the Pope’s visit. She also covered the ongoing quality of life issues that face Mexico City and Los Angeles. On behalf of the station, she is active in a number of community events.
