Jonathon Hoppe is an American sports reporter and multimedia journalist working at WBRC 6 News in Birmingham, Alabama. In addition, he joined the WBRC 6 sports team in 2024.
Hoppe was brought up in Charlotte, North Carolina, and he was a huge fan of the Bobcats, Panthers, and Hornets. He attended Syracuse University, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism in 2020. Prior to Jonathon’s graduation, he interned at WBTV as a sports intern. During his time there, he covered major local sports events such as the 2017 PGA Championship. In addition, he also wrote and produced for the 6 and 11 pm sports newscasts.
Furthermore, he also worked as an intern at WJPZ Radio for over a year as a sports director. More to that, Hoppe has also been a sports intern at Westwood One in New York City. After having graduated, Jonathon started his television career in Columbus, Georgia, where he worked at WTVM. He first served as a sport anchor and reporter for a year before later being promoted to the sports director position.
During Hoppe’s time at WTVM, he shined the spotlight on many local athletes in east Alabama and west Georgia. In addition, he also covered two College Football Playoff National Championship Games and a Final Four. Not long ago, Jonathon received recognition by the Georgia Association of Broadcasters as a 2024 Rising Star. Furthermore, Hoppe has also freelanced as a play-by-play broadcaster for SEC Network+ and ESPN+.
