John Pierson Biography
John Pierson is an American sports director and sports anchor who is currently working at WTNH. He began serving as a Sports Director in January of 2016 after being the weekend anchor since 2001. In addition, he first joined News 8 in 1995, as a sports producer.
Connecticut is his native home and he has worked on many Connecticut sporting events such as UCONN men’s and women’s NCAA championships, UConn Football, the Travelers Championship, and The Connecticut Open. In 1984, he joined Eli Whitney Technical High School and after he graduated, he joined Southern Connecticut State University where he graduated in 1994. In addition, over the years, he has earned a number of New England Emmy Nominations for his work.
In 2002, he won a New England Emmy Award for a report he did on the troubled youth of former UConn basketball player Caron Butler. Later in 2010, he won his second Emmy award for a story on the UConn women’s hockey team. Before joining the News Channel 8 team, he worked at ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut where he served as a digital media talent From Jun 2009 to January 2012.
