John Chandler is an American Emmy award-winning sports anchor and reporter working for NBC 4. He can be seen on weekend evenings at 6 pm and 11 pm and is also a weekday sports and general assignment reporter. In addition, he joined the NBC 4 news team in January 2014.
John Chandler Career
Cleveland is Chandler’s native home and he has deep roots within the City’s legendary sports history. He attended Boston University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in broadcast journalism in 2001. He started his career following his late uncle, Nev Chandler footsteps in sportscasting. In addition, John worked at Cleveland’s WEWS News Channel 5 where he served as a sports anchor and reporter. While he worked at WEWS News, he covered the rising high school star LeBron James and for his extensive reporting, he received two Emmy nominations. John has also reported from NBA Playoffs, NCCA Final Four, and more.
While working for NBC 4 New York, Chandler has been covering sports inclusive of; the 2014 Stanley Cup Final, Super Bowl XLVIII, and the 2015 World Series. John traveled with the New York Giants and he delivered live updates from the road. He also covered Elizabeth, New Jersey’s Elmora “Troopers” in 2019, as they journeyed to Williamsport, Pennsylvania for the Little League World Series. In addition, John was awarded a New York Emmy in 2020, for his sports reporting. While working for NBC 4 New York, he also covers general assignments and breaking news stories.
In 2018, Chandler was presented with a New York Emmy for news writing. Later in 2019, he received another New York Emmy for the January 2018 blizzard coverage. For his reporting on the COVID-19 pandemic, the NBC 4 New York team was awarded the prestigious Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award. Furthermore, before Chandler joined NBC 4, he worked at NBC Connecticut where he served as a sports anchor for three years. John served as the host of NBC’s Olympic Zone and Sunday Sports Replay, and he reporter from the Boston Marathon in 2013 when he witnessed the bombing.
Furthermore, Chandler worked at WEEI-FM in Boston where he served as a lead weekday sports anchor. In 2012, he won the Marconi Award for National Sports Station of the Year. He also worked at New England Sports Network (NESN) where he worked for 4 years. While he was at the station, a New England Emmy Award was presented to him in 2010, for Best Sports Reporting. In addition, Chandler was the studio host for NESN’s live Super Bowl XLII coverage and he reported from the NBA Finals.
John has also worked for Notre Dame Football on Sirius/XM radio where he served as a sideline reporter. He also worked at the Brooklyn Nets NBA D-League affiliate on NBA TV, NBA.com, and ESPN AM1450, where he served as a sideline reporter.
