John Cádiz Klemack is an American Emmy award-winning general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor who is currently working at KNBC. He can be seen on weekdays at 11 a.m., 4 p.m., 5 p.m., and 6 p.m at KNBC. In addition, he joined the NBC4 news team in 2008.
John Cádiz Klemack Career
In his journalism career, he has covered some of the highest-profile stories throughout Southern California, across the nation, and abroad. He was on scene to cover the tragic mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, Nevada, Las Vegas, Florida, and Parkland. In addition, he has reported from South Florida to cover the devastation of Hurricane Irma on the region, even filing reports for NBC4’s sister station, Telemundo.
Furthermore, he has also covered both Pope Francis and Pope Benedict XVI during their individual, historical trips to Mexico and was in San Bernardino County when the Dorner Standoff came to a peak. Some of his other stories which reached national attention include the Aurora, Colorado Theater Shooting, the tragic Oklahoma tornadoes, Mexico when authorities found the body of a Hollywood producer’s wife, and his exclusive live reports from Cancun.
Furthermore, on the NBC4 award-winning news franchise, “Seeking Justice, he has been its lead reporter prior to also being the lead for the NBC4 series, “Streets of Shame,” highlighting the struggles of homelessness for those experiencing it and those elected to fix it. In his journalism career, he has received awards such as; an Edward R. Murrow Award, Associated Press Award for “Best Spot News Coverage,” an Emmy award, L.A. Press Club Award for his “Exclusive Continuing Coverage” of the Miramonte Elementary School child abuse scandal. Additionally, he has received multiple awards from the Society of Professional Journalists for Best News Series, Best Spot News, and Best Reporter. The L.A. County Probations Officers Union also awarded him with The Responsible Journalism Award.
Previously, he worked at KSTU-TV in Salt Lake City, Utah where he served as an anchor and reporter for a period of four years. While he worked at KSTU-TV, he covered the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping and the arrest and prosecution of polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs. In addition, he has also worked at WOWK-TV in Charleston, West Virginia where he served as a morning news anchor and general assignment reporter. Prior to also serving as a statewide news correspondent for the station’s three-affiliate network.
He attended the Ohio University in Athens, Ohio where he graduated from its E.W. Scripps College of Journalism with a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism. In addition, he is a member of the Radio-Television Digital News Association, the California Chicano News Media Association, and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
During his leisure time, he enjoys a nice round of golf every once in a while, spending ample time with his wife and their young twins.
