Joe Furey Biography
Joe Furey is an American meteorologist who is currently working at WTNH as the co-chief meteorologist. He serves as a meteorologist for the 5 to 6:30 pm and 11 pm newscast and the 8 pm to 11 pm weekday news cast of WCTX. He joined the News 8/ WTNH team in October 2017.
He was brought up in Norwalk, Connecticut, and attended Central Catholic High School where he graduated proudly and later joined the college at Stew Leonard’s in Norwalk. He studied at Villanova University and also attended Western Connecticut State University where he did his graduate studies in meteorology. Later on, he became a graduate assistant and in the end, he became an Assistant Director under Dr. Mel Goldstein at the Western Connecticut State University Weather Center in Danbury. In addition, he has serves as The New England Weather Service Director in Hartford.
Furey began his television career at NEWS12 Connecticut while still working on many radio stations such as WICC, WAVZ, and KC101 and later on, he relocated to Hartford. He also played competitive baseball till he was 50 years old and is a huge fan of Yankee. Whenever he can, he enjoys going out to schools across Connecticut where he talks about the weather and other stuff to students. Joe stated that his grandparents probably inspired his love for weather. His grandparents came from Newfoundland, Canada and they would sleep with a window open during the winter.
Furthermore, his favorite musician is Billy Joel, and his best concert was at the Yale Bowl in 1978, for the Eagles/Little River Band and Heart. He also loves the Chicago concert at the Garden State Music Fair in New Jersey. In terms of traveling, he would love to travel to Hawaii, Alaska, Ireland, Canada, Iceland, and Newfoundland. He has traveled to all lower 48 states with his family in four years.
