Joanna Gaines is an American interior designer, television personality, and author. She is best known for co-hosting the home renovation show Fixer Upper, which began airing on HGTV in 2013, alongside her husband Chip Gaines.

Gaines studied communications at Baylor University after graduating from high school. She worked as an intern at the radio station KWBU and the television station KWTX in Waco. Additionally, she interned at the Dan Rather-anchored 48 Hours in New York City for a semester. She stated that her goal as a student was to become a broadcast journalist. In 2001, she received her degree from Baylor. After marrying Chip Gaines Joanna started working for his real estate flipping firm.
