Jim Williams Biography
Jim Williams is an American Emmy Award Winning reporter working for CBS Chicago as a general assignment reporter and co-anchor alongside Marie Saavedra for CBS 2 on Sunday 4 p.m. evening newscasts. He is also the producer/host of the documentary series “Stories 2 Tell.” He joined the CBS news team in December 2002, after previously working for WBBM-TV.
Jim Williams Career
Williams began his professional career after earning a bachelor’s degree in media management from Colombia College in Chicago. He was a part-time news film librarian at WGN-TV in Chicago in 1977. With time, he was promoted to be a writer, producer, and eventually, a reporter. He also wrote newscasts for WGN Radio. He spent 15 years at WGN before leaving the station for a job in city government in 1992.
From 1992-1997, Williams was Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley’s press secretary. He supervised media relations throughout the city government. This helped to create the city government’s first television magazine show, called “Chicago Works!” and also represented the city during the 1996 Democratic National Convention. He later joined ABC News as a Chicago-based correspondent. Here he reported across the country for “World News Tonight with Peter Jennings” and “Good Morning America.” For “Nightline,” Williams covered China’s crackdown on the spiritual group Falun Gong.
Williams has won several journalism awards, including an Emmy for investigative reporting. In May 2018, he was inducted into the National Television Academy of Arts & Sciences Silver Circle for his lifetime of work in Chicago television.
