Jim Handly Biography
Jim Handly is an American multiple Emmy-winning anchors working for NBC4 as a weekday evening anchor on News4 at 5 and News4 at 11 a position he took up in 2016. He joined NBC4 in 1992, as the anchor of the weekend editions of News4 Today and later launch of News4 at 4.
Handly’s career as a journalist has enabled him to travel to Russia, the Middle East, and the Caribbean. He has also reported live on a number of huge news stories in Washington, D.C. Over the years, he has covered; many election nights, seven inaugurations, hurricanes in his native home Florida, and four U.S. papal visits. In addition, Jim has also enjoyed covering; the Super Bowl, the Olympics, and most of all, Nationals and Caps championship celebrations.
Furthermore, while working in Washington, he has been active in a number of organizations such as; the Junior Tennis Champions Center in Maryland, the Washington Tennis and Education Foundation, the Humane Rescue Alliance, and Thanks USA, which provides scholarships for families of military soldiers. Jim has served as the host of the Blue Bird Blues Festival in Prince George’s County for over 20 years.
Before he relocated to Washington, he worked for the CBS affiliate in Hartford/New Haven, Connecticut where he served as an anchor and reporter. Handly started his broadcasting career at WPTV, the NBC affiliate in West Palm Beach, Florida where he served as an anchor and reporter. He enjoys competitive tennis and he takes part in charity tennis events. During his free time, he enjoys; kayaking, biking, spending ample time with his family, and checking out the newest coffee houses and roasters, and farmer’s markets around our region.
