Gray has an extensive career in sports broadcasting, covering major events like Super Bowls, World Series, NBA Finals, NCAA Final Fours, Olympics, and numerous World Boxing Championship Title Fights. Furthermore, he worked as a producer on the 1984 Olympic Games’ Official Film and reported on various Olympic Games on television and radio from 1988 to 2012. Some highlights include: Breaking the news of Rams running back Eric Dickerson’s trade from the Los Angeles Rams to the Indianapolis Colts in a live interview on ESPN, marking a pivotal moment for ESPN SportsCenter.
Securing the exclusive and only television interview with NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle on his sudden retirement in Palm Springs, California, on March 22, 1989. He also managed to report Michael Jordan’s retirement from the Chicago Bulls during Game 1 of the 1993 American League Championship Series between the Chicago White Sox and Toronto Blue Jays. He also ended up conducting an interview with Floyd Mayweather in the ring after his victory against Conor McGregor in 2017, where Mayweather officially retired from boxing with a record of 50–0. Additionally, his notable interview with Pete Rose during Game 2 of the 1999 World Series, addressing allegations of gambling on MLB games, is a significant moment in sports broadcasting.
