Jesse Palmer Career
Palmer enrolled in both Confederation and St. Pius X high schools, where he actively participated in amateur football. Notably, he played for teams within the Ontario Minor Football Association and had significant stints with the Ottawa Norsemen and Myers Riders Football Clubs in Ottawa. Additionally, he pursued his education in a French immersion school. He received an athletic scholarship to the University of Florida in Gainesville. Here, he played as a quarterback for the Florida Gators football team from 1997 to 2000 under coach Steve Spurrier. Throughout his college career, he shared playing time with quarterbacks Doug Johnson and Rex Grossman. In his senior year, he was honored as one of the team captains and received the prestigious Gators’ Fergie Ferguson Award, recognizing outstanding leadership, character, and courage. By the end of his four-year college stint, he accumulated 3,755 passing yards.
In 2001, he graduated from the University of Florida with dual undergraduate degrees—a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and a Bachelor of Science in marketing from the College of Business Administration. Notably, he made the Southeastern Conference’s academic honor roll in 1998, 1999, and 2000. The New York Giants selected him in the fourth round (125th overall pick) of the 2001 NFL Draft. He played for the Giants from 2001 until his release before the 2005 season. During his time with the Giants, he primarily served as a backup behind starting quarterback Kerry Collins. In 2002, he participated in two games, and the following season, he played in six games, starting three. He became the second Canadian (after Mark Rypien) to start as quarterback in the NFL.

He eventually signed with the San Francisco 49ers on November 1, 2005, due to injuries affecting their quarterbacks Alex Smith and Ken Dorsey. However, he was released without playing a game when Dorsey and Smith returned from injury. Despite a brief re-signing by the 49ers in March 2006, he was released again in August 2006, marking the end of his professional football career. Following his departure from the NFL, Palmer turned to the Canadian Football League (CFL) in search of opportunities. Palmer transitioned into a successful broadcast career, starting with Fox Sports Net where he analyzed Arena Football League games. He expanded his role as a game and studio analyst for CSTV in late 2005, covering NFL games for Fox in 2006. He made appearances on the NFL Network and the MSG Network. His broadcast journey continued as a color commentator for Fox in the 2005 season, and he returned to the booth on November 26, 2006. Additionally, he announced his retirement from the Canadian Football League on May 24, 2007, to pursue a broadcasting career with Fox. He later joined ESPN in 2007, contributing as a studio analyst on College Football Live and ABC telecasts. He also co-hosted The Palmer and Pollack Show on ESPNU with former Georgia defensive end, David Pollack. ESPN named him, along with Brent Musburger, as the lead game announcer for the SEC Network in 2014.
Additionally, he served as a New York correspondent for CTV’s eTalk, covering sports and entertainment events, including the Super Bowl and the Academy Awards. His versatility in broadcasting included studio analysis for ESPN’s broadcast of the Cotton Bowl in 2012, the Fiesta Bowl in 2010, and the Rose Bowl in 2009. He was the ESPN analyst for the 2023 Orange Bowl. Furthermore, he became an NFL analyst for TSN’s “Monday Morning Quarterback” segment. Later on, he diversified his career by guest-starring in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and hosting the food competition show Recipe to Riches on Food Network Canada. He joined Good Morning America as a “Special Contributor” in 2015 and later hosted DailyMailTV.
