Jenna Fischer Biography
Jenna Fischer is an American Emmy-award-winning actress best known for starring in Blades of Glory (2007), Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (2007), The Promotion (2008), Hall Pass (2011), and The Giant Mechanical Man (2012). She rose to fame after starring in the TV series The Office (2005–2013).
Jenna Fischer Career
Fischer was a touring member of a Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre group while attending Truman State University. Fischer started doing Commedia dell’arte with the Zoo District Theatre Company after relocating to Los Angeles in 1998. Her performance with Zoo District Theatre Company in a musical theater version of the 1922 classic Nosferatu caught the attention of a talent agency. She eventually signed a contract with that agent as a result.
Fischer had trouble getting a job in television and movies. When she was released from Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, she starred in her first paid film role in a sex education movie for mental patients. It took Fischer three years from the time she moved to California to get her first speaking job on television. In the 2001 television sitcom Spin City, she portrayed a waiter. During her early years in Southern California, Fischer had modest roles in independent films such as Employee of the Month, Lucky 13, and The Specials. She appeared as a guest on several television programs, such as That ’70s Show, Cold Case, Miss Match, Off Centre, Six Feet Under, Strong Medicine, and What I Like About You.
Fischer took matters into her own hands while her cinematic career was just beginning to take off. She wrote, directed, and starred in her own mockumentary, LolliLove, which is the only film she has ever had directing credit for. Along with her ex-husband James Gunn, pals Linda Cardellini, Judy Greer, Lloyd Kaufman, and Jason Segel also acted in the movie. She started taking part in a self-led book-based creativity seminar called The Artist’s Way. “I got this notion from working on the book… It wasn’t even meant to be a genuine movie when we started it.
James and I were only planning to utilize it as an improv project to pass the time.” She conducted early impromptu interviews with her pals in the pseudo documentary format that would later gain her celebrity on The Office, using a camera she gave Gunn as a wedding present. In an interview, she stated, “I truly believe it was divine intervention that I chose to work in this medium for a year.” “It was the super best practice I could have ever gotten for the possibility of being on the show.” LolliLove had its world premiere in November 2004 at the TromaDance Film Festival in addition to the St. Louis International Film Festival, which took place in Fischer and Gunn’s hometown. Fischer received the Screen Actors Guild Emerging Actor Award for her performance in the movie.
Even though the movie helped her career, she told a St. Louis arts and entertainment magazine that the experience discouraged her from directing in the future, stating that “the writing was painful and the directing was exhausting.” Making a film as both director and star was really challenging. Due to our small team, I was also responsible for many tasks that a typical director would not have to perform, such as making the props and serving lunch. At the same time, I was instructing an actor, practicing lines, setting up the next shot, and brainstorming with my D.P. Even though I can multitask well, that was too much for me. No single aspect of it was as enjoyable as I would have hoped. I believe I’ll stay with acting. That was an amazing section.
