Jeff Smith is an American meteorologist working for WABC-TV as a weekend evening meteorologist at 5 pm, 6 pm, and 11 pm. He joined the WABC-TV weather team in January 2007.
In addition to Smith’s role as a weekend evening meteorologist, Jeff also reports on a number of newscast during the week as he keeps the viewers informed of threatening weather on social media. Prior to joining the WABC-TV team, Jeff worked for WTEN-TV, the ABC affiliate in Albany, New York where he served as a meteorologist. Smith has also previously worked for WOAY-TV, the ABC affiliate in Oak Hill, West Virginia where he was the chief meteorologist.
Plymouth, Massachusetts is Jeff’s native home and while growing up, the extreme New England weather sparked his interest in meteorology. After having graduated with a highschool diploma, Smith joined Cornell University where he majored in Atmospheric Science and earned a Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric science and meteorology. In addition, Jeff did live weather forecasts for Newswatch 16, which is the student-run television station at nearby Ithaca College. Furthermore, for Smith’s outstanding work as a meteorologist, he earned the American Meteorological Society’s prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation.
