Jason Martinez is an American Emmy Award-winning anchor and reporter working for FOX 29 as the co-anchor of the weeknights newscast at Five, Six, Ten, and 11 p.m. He joined the FOX 29 news team in June 2019, after previously working for ABC 10News.
Prior to relocating to Philly, Jason worked in San Diego at KGTV as the morning news anchor for 4 years. While he worked at KGTV, he gained experience in covering non-stop devastating Lilac Fire that destroyed over 200 homes, immigration issues, the international border conflict, and California’s cost of living crisis. In addition, before Martinez relocated to San Diego, he worked at WPLG in Miami where he served as an anchor for 5 years while covering a number of the wildest “only in Florida” stories of his career.
In addition, Jason covered US-Cuba relations, a violent face-eating incident, Presidential elections in the swing state, fake plastic surgeons, and two Miami Heat NBA championships. While serving as a reporter, he has covered crime scenes, tornadoes, presidential elections, hurricanes, plane crashes, and floods. For his coverage of a devastating freeze that destroyed Central California’s citrus crops, e was awarded an Emmy award while he was in Fresno, California. Furthermore, he has also worked in Los Angeles and his work there earned him his 4th Emmy for the coverage of Michael Jackson’s shocking death.
Martinez attended Chapman University in Orange, California where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in journalism in 2001. He then started his journalism career at WTVG in Toledo, Ohio where he served as a reporter. While working at WTVG, Jason covered a number of major stories such as; “The Big Blackout,” the November 2002 outbreak of tornadoes, and he interviewed a high schooler known as LeBron James, who was good at basketball.
Furthermore, Jason loves music and he has been a drummer since he was 4 years old he has shared the stage with great musicians while covering a number of genres such as; jazz, funk, R&B, country, rock, Latin, and soul.
