Janice Huff Biography
Janice Huff is an American meteorologist working for NBC 4 News as the chief meteorologist and she can be seen at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. She joined the WNBC team in January 1995.
Janice Huff Career
Manhattan is Huff’s native home and she attended Florida State University at Tallahassee where she earned a major in Meteorology. Huff is among the nation’s most recognized and trusted weather anchors. In 2020, Janice was inducted as a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society. In addition, she is also a member of the New York State Broadcasters Association’s Hall of Fame. Huff has served as a weather forecaster in the Tri-State for over 25 years and during this time, she has provided accurate and informative weather information.
Prior to joining WNBC, Huff worked for KRON-TV, the NBC affiliate in San Francisco since 1990, and while she was at the station, she served as the primary on-air meteorologist from 1991. On regular occasions, Janice has received recognition for her contributions to broadcast journalism in the meteorology field. In addition, Montclair State University awarded Hoff in 2015, with the prestigious Allen B. Dumont Broadcaster of the Year Award. She was also inducted into the New York State Broadcasters Association’s Hall of Fame.

Furthermore, Janice served as the host of Wednesday’s Child, which is a quarterly adoption feature known for shedding light on foster children and families. For her work on Wednesday’s Child, she has received many awards. For her devotion to children in the New York City area and around the globe, she was honored at 1199 SEIU / Employer Child Care Corporation’s “5th Annual Care for Kids Gala” in 2015. In addition, her work on behalf of adoptable children in New York City, she received recognition at the “Family Focus Adoption Services (FFAS) Gala” in 2011.
In addition, Janice’s devotion to foster care children earned her recognition in 2012, at the New York City Court Appointed Special Advocates Spring Reception (CASA-NYC).” To protect the needs and well-being of children in foster care, she worked together with CASA- NYC thus ensuring they find safe permanent homes.

She has also received awards such as; the “2006 Golden Apple Award” from the New York City Chapter of American Women in Radio & Television (AWRT); the Second Annual “Nicholas Scoppetta Award for Service to Children,” the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies’ “2006 Laura Parsons Pratt Award;” the New York Chapter National Black Journalist Association’s “2007 Community Service Award;” the YWCA of New York City’s 2008 “W” award; the 2004 “Miracle Makers Media Award” for her devotion to assisting New York City’s Foster Care children; and the Administration for Children’s Services “2004 Golden Heart Award.”
Furthermore, she has also received awards such as; the American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval for Television Weather casting in 1985, a St. Louis Emmy Award for “Best Weathercaster” in 1988, and Bronx Community College’s 1995 “Kaleidoscope Award” for excellence in television meteorology. In addition, Janice is a member of; the National Association of Black Journalists, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, The American Meteorological Society, the Friars Club, the National Academy of Television Arts and Science, and the National Weather Association.
