Israel Houghton is an American contemporary Christian music singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and worship leader. He is usually credited as Israel & New Breed.
Israel Houghton Career
Houghton decided to commit to worship ministry full-time in 1989. He founded “New Breed Ministry” in 1995 alongside a group of singers and musicians and his wife, Meleasa. The primary goal of the group was to remove barriers related to culture and religion. To get the churches listening to the powerful sound of the “Ministry,” the group embarked on a cross-country tour.
With the song “Whisper it Loud,” he launched his recording career in 1997. Israel & New Breed released their debut album, “New Season,” in 2001. Sony released it as their first album. Further, they released the album “Real” in 2002, and “Live from Another Level” followed in 2004.
He produced Michael Gungor’s debut album, “Bigger than My Imagination,” in 2003. Gungor is a contemporary worship musician. In a review published in “Christianity Today,” the album was praised as “one of the year’s best worship albums” and was well received. They recorded “Alive in South Africa,” another live album, in Cape Town while playing to an audience of 8,000 people. In 2006, Houghton released the Christmas album “Timeless Christmas.” “A Deeper Level,” which was released on September 4, 2007, came next.
“The Power of One,” his debut solo studio album, was released in 2009. It features songs that were already fan favorites, like “Power of One,” “Everywhere I Go,” and “Moving Forward,” which is about the relationship between the Lord and the faithful. “Every Prayer” is a stirring gospel ballad featuring Mary Mary, “Just Wanna Say” is a danceable song, and “You Found Me” is another catchy tune. August 31, 2010, marked the release of “Love God, Love People” and “London Sessions” in the same year. On March 5, 2012, the 26-track, two-disc “Decade” compilation album about a career overview came to be available. On August 14, 2012, the live album “Jesus at the Center” became available. The live album “Covered: Alive in Asia” features recordings from the group’s 2015 tour of Asia. Eleven of his thirteen albums came out under his label, Integrity.
