Iris Hermosillo Biography

Iris Hermosillo is an American Emmy award-winning meteorologist who is currently working at ABC 15. She has been serving as the weekday morning meteorologist since she joined the ABC15 team in December 2012.  

Previously she spent a number of years covering severe weather in the Midwest. She was brought up in Phoenix and attended Creighton Elementary and Camelback High School where she graduated proudly. Later on, she joined ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication where she graduated with a major in broadcast journalism.

Hermosillo was awarded a certification in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. In addition, she has spent more than ten years in the broadcast industry and began her career in  Joplin, Missouri. Furthermore, she spent a number of years in Kansas City, Missouri. Over the years, she has experience forecasting all types of weather including severe tornadoes and storms to snow and ice storms. Currently, she is focusing her efforts on tracking our dangerous monsoon storms and forecasting the excessive heat in the Valley.

In addition, she is passionate about keeping people safe and while she worked in Kansas City, she was among the first reporters to arrive in Joplin after the 2011 tornado that tore through the center of the town. During her downtime, she enjoys cheering on various sports teams, eating at new Valley restaurants, traveling around the state, and working on house projects.
