Heather Ly is an American award-winning anchor and reporter working for WRGZ-TV as a general assignment reporter. During the week, Ly anchors Daybreak Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and Daybreak Sunday from 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. She joined the WRGZ-TV news team in 2006, after previously working for CBS 2 Chicago.
Ly earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism and graduated with honors from Columbia College Chicago. While she was there, she worked as an intern which resulted in a job as an assignment editor and production assistant at CBS 2 Chicago, where she began her journalism career. In addition, she has also won a first-place AP award for her story about a Western New York woman who turns old wedding dresses into burial “angel gowns” for babies, an enthusiastic Buffalo Sabres fan who was in need of a prosthetic leg, and a first-place Associated Press award for Best Sports Coverage for her story about 3-year-old Ryder.
Furthermore, for Ly’s reporting during winter storm coverage with the rest of the Daybreak team, Ly was twice nominated for a New York Regional Emmy award. Heather enjoys meeting new people and when she’s not working, she can be found on or near the water. Moreover, she spends her summer boating in the Finger Lakes and also volunteers her time to support various organizations in Western New York, including Women and Children’s Hospital, the Boys and Girls Club, and Roswell Park. Ly’s interests include cooking, checking out new fitness classes, rooting for the Bills, Buckeyes, Chicago Bears, and White Sox, and traveling.
