Gregg Jarrett Biography

Gregg Jarrett is an American news commentator, author and attorney working for FOX NEWS as a legal analyst and commentator. He joined the FOX NEWS news team in November 2002, after previously working for MSNBC.

Gregg Jarrett Career

Jarrett graduated from San Marino High School in 1973. Later, he attained magna cum laude honors at Claremont McKenna College in 1977, earning a degree in political science. Subsequently, he achieved a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Hastings College of Law in 1980. For several years, he practiced as a defense attorney in San Francisco with the firm of Gordon & Rees. As of February 3, 2015, his California State Bar license is designated as “inactive.” He has shared his legal expertise by serving as an adjunct professor at New York Law School and delivering lectures at various law schools. In November 2002, he became a part of the Fox News team.

Before this, he had a tenure at MSNBC. Additionally, he contributed eight years to Court TV, now known as TruTV, where he anchored Prime Time Justice. Furthermore, he hosted the nationally syndicated half-hour magazine show. Which took place inside America’s Courts, and aired daily on broadcast stations, including NBC in New York City and Los Angeles, and weekends on CNBC. Prior to his time at Court TV, he held positions at several local stations, including KCSM-TV in San Francisco, California; WMDT-TV in Salisbury, Maryland; WKFT-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina and KSNW-TV in Wichita, Kansas. During his tenure at KSNW, he received a Heartland Emmy Award for the “Turnpike Tornado” news segment. His legal analysis has consistently leaned towards the defense of President Donald Trump.

In August 2017, he advocated for a grand jury to investigate Hillary Clinton regarding her email controversy. A grand jury was subsequently convened by special counsel Robert Mueller for the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections. Jarrett criticized grand juries as an “undemocratic farce”. On Fox News, he later labeled the Mueller investigation as “illegitimate and corrupt,” asserting that “the FBI has become America’s secret police” and “a shadow government”. Furthermore, he went as far as comparing the FBI to the KGB, the Soviet security agency, earning a “Pants on Fire”. A rating from PolitiFact highlighted the absurdity of the comparison, stating that the FBI operates within the rule of law and is democratically accountable, unlike the KGB.

In 2018, he authored the book “The Russia Hoax.” Wherein he contends that “Hillary Clinton’s deep state collaborators in government” orchestrated “nefarious actions” to shield Clinton and undermine Trump. The book achieved best-seller status on both Amazon and the New York Times lists, drawing praise from President Trump. Rolling Stone magazine characterized the book as a 286-page compilation that extensively revisits accusations against the Clintons, with repeated references to Uranium One. The magazine suggested that the book portrays the dropping of the Clinton email investigation and the subsequent initiation of the Russia investigation as more than coincidence.

It also hints at a conspiracy fueled by a pro-Clinton intelligence community seeking revenge. In a review for The Washington Post, Carlos Lozada labeled the book as a Trump hagiography. In 2018, PolitiFact scrutinized five claims made in Jarrett’s book, categorizing them as false, misleading, and unsubstantiated.
