Grant Johnston Biography
Grant Johnston is an American meteorologist working for NBC5 as a weekday morning meteorologist from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. He joined the NBC 5 weather team in April 2012.
Johnston has worked in a number of on-air meteorological positions, and he worked for NBC affiliate, KFOR-TV, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for seven years. He has forecasted and chased storms in the heart of Tornado Alley for a number of years. Grant was brought up in the Midwest where he grew passionate about; tornadoes, thunderstorms, and blizzards. In addition, his parents took him to meet the local TV meteorologist in Kansas City, Bryan Busby as a present in high school.
Furthermore, Johnston interned with Busby six years later and Grant credits him for his start in the media business. He attended the University of Missouri where he graduated with a degree in Atmospheric Science. In addition, Grant started his journalism career at KMIZ-TV in Columbia, Missouri where he served as a meteorologist. He has also worked for KYTV in Springfield, Missouri where he served as a meteorologist for two years.
While Grant was in college, he did an undergraduate research on hurricanes and El Nino for which he received recognition. In 2009, Johnston enrolled in the Dallas Theological Seminary after previously working in Oklahoma City. During his spare time, he enjoys running, composing music, flying, and spending time with family and friends.
