Glenda Lewis Biography
Glenda Lewis is an American five-time Emmy award-winning anchor and reporter who is currently working at WXYZ. She serves as the co-anchor of 7 Action News which airs at 5 p.m on Channel 7 and 7 Action News at 10 pm on TV20 Detroit.
She joined the WXYZ-TV/Channel 7 news team on September 1, 2003, and served as a general assignment reporter and the co-anchor of Action News Sunday at 6 and 11 pm.
Glenda Lewis Career
Despite the fact that her mother was a broadcasting legend, it was never her lifelong dream to pursue a career in broadcasting. She attended Michigan State University where she graduated with a Bachelor of art in Advertising and Marketing. In addition, she started her broadcasting career at WBKB-TV in Alpena where she served as a reporter and photographer. Later on, she relocated to Lansing where she worked at WLNS-TV serving as an anchor and reporter. Additionally, she also worked at WJRT-TV in Flint prior to also working at ABC 12 News as the co-anchor of the 6 and 11 pm newscast for a period of five years.
Together with her mother, they are part of the Museum of Radio and television history in New York City… for being the 1st Mother and Daughter in the country to have been co-anchors. Furthermore, she is also very active in community organizations such as; the NAACP, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, MOTTEP Minority Organ and Tissue Transplant, Black United Fund, United Negro College Fund, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
In addition, the city council inducted her mother into Detroit history being the first mother-and-daughter anchor team in the country. She is also a proud Michigan State Spartans alum prior to receiving the honor of Distinguished Alumni Award alongside sports reporter Jemele Hill and presented to her by former Congressman Mike Rogers
