Gary Shapiro is an American Emmy award-winning anchor who is currently working at 9NEWS. He serves as a morning news anchor at the station. He joined the 9NEWS news team as the Boulder Bureau Reporter in 1983.

Nebraska is his native home and he attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln where he graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. He also did attend Iowa State University in Ames where he graduated with a Master of Science in Mass Communications.
While serving as a journalist, he has been to Des Moines, Denver, Omaha, Wichita, and Nebraska. Furthermore, he has also produced a number of TV specials and documentaries. He has done an in-depth report on the Five Points neighborhood in Denver. He has also produced a behind-the-scenes look at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
In addition, before Pontiff’s visit to Denver in 1993, he traveled to Italy and Poland to do a documentary on Pope John Paul II. Not long ago, he produced and anchored an award-winning documentary on the 75th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor.
Furthermore, while serving as an anchor and reporter, he has won many awards inclusive of Best of Gannett and awards from the Colorado Broadcaster’s Association and Emmy awards. Additionally, for his excellent skills in reporting, he won the coveted Edward R. Murrow Award.
