Fred Blankenship Biography
Fred Blankenship is an American anchor working for WSB-TV as anchor of Channel 2 Action News This Morning from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. and Channel 2 Action News at Noon. He joined WSB-TV/Channel 2 in 2007 team in 2007.
While working for WSB, Blankenship has covered everything including the COVID-19 pandemic and hurricanes. One of the memories that Fred can vividly recall while working at the station was honoring the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday by walking across the Edmund Pettus Bridge with Congressman John Lewis. On that very same bridge, Congressman Lewis was almost killed by other protestors. In addition, over the years, Blankenship has received a number of Emmy awards for his outstanding work on Channel 2 Action News This Morning and Channel 2 Action News at Noon.
Furthermore, he is also very active in a number of organizations in Atlanta such as; Leadership Atlanta and 100 Black Men of Atlanta. Prior to joining Channel 2 Action News, Fred worked in Wichita, Kansas at KAKE -TV and while he was at the station, he chase storms on a regular basis thus he gained expertise in covering severe weather. In addition, he won awards for stories on drug prevention and community outreach while working for KAKE. Blankenship has also worked at KGTV in San Diego as a reporter and weekend anchor. He is a member of the National Press Photographers Association and the National Association of Black Journalists.
