Evan Perez is an American anchor and reporter working for CNN as a Senior Justice correspondent. He joined the CNN news team in 2013, after previously working for Wall Street Journal.
Perez works for CNN as a Senior Justice Correspondent in the Washington, D.C. Bureau. He covers crime, the law, and national security. Perez used to mostly cover the Russia probe and helped lead the team that covered the Justice Department. The White House Correspondents’ Association gave Perez, Jake Tapper, Carl Bernstein, and Jim Sciutto the Merriman Smith Award in the broadcast category for their January 2017 report on how the intelligence community thought Russia had damaging information on Trump while he was still President-elect.
Perez was the first person on CNN to report that U.S. Senator Bob Menendez had been charged with a crime and that the leader of the attack on the U.S. diplomatic base in Benghazi, Libya, had been charged.
Before joining CNN, Perez was in charge of Justice coverage at the Wall Street Journal. Moreover, he helped break the news about the complaint that led to the federal investigation of former CIA Director David Petraeus and the firing of an FBI agent involved in the case. During his twelve years at WSJ, he wrote about real estate, airplanes, cruise lines, and Hurricane Katrina from a business point of view.
Perez used to work as a writer for The Wall Street Journal in Washington, D.C., where he wrote about the Justice Department. From 1998 to 2001, he worked as a writer for the Journal in Florida, where he covered real estate. Moreover, in 2001, he moved to Atlanta to cover airlines, cruise lines, and home builders. Evan was honored with a Pulitzer Prize in 2004 for his work with a group of Journal writers who wrote about the 2004 hurricane season in Florida. Perez worked as a writer for the Associated Press in Miami from 1995 to 1998 before he joined the Journal. Moreover, in his early years, Perez worked as a writer for the Associated Press in Miami. Additionally, he was born in Belize City, Belize, and went to the University of South Florida in Tampa to study media.
