Errol Louis is an American anchor and reporter working for Spectrum News 1 as a political anchor and host. He joined the Spectrum News 1 news team in November 2010, after previously working for CNN.

Louis attended New Rochelle High School and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from Harvard College. He also earned a Master of Arts degree in Political Science from Yale University and a Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School. Louis joined Spectrum News NY1 in November 2010 as a political anchor and the host of Inside City Hall, a program about New York City politics that airs nightly. He is the Director of the Urban Reporting program at the City University of New York’s Graduate School of Journalism.
Before he joined Spectrum News, he spent six years working as a contributor for CNN, and has made frequent appearances on Lou Dobbs Tonight and other CNN news programs. On June 23, 2008, Louis became host of the Morning Show, a three-hour talk program on radio station WWRL, and was later succeeded by Mark Riley in 2009. He was named the top radio show host and newspaper columnist in the city by The Village Voice in November 2010.
Before joining the New York Daily News in 2004, Louis was an editorial board member and worked as an associate editor at The New York Sun. He also authored a weekly column for Our Time Press, a weekly publication headquartered in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, called “Commerce and Community”.
In addition to his career, Louis has unsuccessfully run for office several times. He was a panelist in a 2016 Democratic presidential debate in Brooklyn between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. On September 9, 1997, Louis confronted incumbent Mary Pinkett and police officer James E. Davis in the Democratic primary for New York City Council District 35. Senator Velmanette Montgomery of the state, Congressman Major Owens, and Assemblyman Roger L. Green all supported Pinkett, whom Louis had accused of being missing from the neighborhood.
With 27.82% of the vote, Louis was defeated by Pinkett. He then stood against Pinkett on the Green Party ticket in the general election of November 4, 1997, while Davis ran on the Conservative and Liberal party tickets. With 8.54% of the vote, Louis lost. In August 2001, Louis withdrew from the contest despite having announced his candidacy in the Democratic primary for the same City Council seat in 2001. Before his journalism career, Louis taught urban studies at Pratt Institute. Furthermore, he alongside Mark Winston Griffith (the hip-hop bankers), co-founded the Central Brooklyn Federal Credit Union in 1993. Additionally, Louis is an adjunct professor of Urban Reporting at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.
