Erik Dobrats Biography
Erik Dobrats is an American sports reporter who is currently working at WTNH where he serves as the weekend sports anchor. He has worked at WTNH for over two decades and serves as the 6 pm and 11 pm sports reporter at the station. In addition, he joined News 8 in 1998, as a writer for the news department.
Dobrats also serves as the co-host of inside New York Baseball, ED/BC podcast. He attended the University of South Florida and later in 1993, he attended The University of Connecticut where he graduated with a Bachelor of Journalism and political science in 1998. In 2002, he was requested to produce News 8’s Pilot Pen sports coverage and when the tournament was over, he continued working at the station.
For a number of years, he has worked as a sports producer and in 2011, he move to sports reporting. While he worked behind the scenes, he had access to Connecticut’s biggest sporting events. Erik also traveled to New Orleans and Atlanta where he covered UConn for the Women’s Final Four. In addition, he has produced many tennis and golf specials for News 8 and Emmy nominated production of the MyTV9 High School Football Game of the Week, Inside Huskies Football, and Huskies All Access.
He began on-air doing color commentary for the MyTV9 High School Football Game of the Week with Sports Team 8. Before Dobrats started working at WTNH, he worked in Middletown for WLIS/WMRD radio and the CBS Radio Network in New York City. Furthermore, he attended the University of South Florida, and later in 1993, he attended The University of Connecticut where he graduated with a Bachelor of Journalism and political science in 1998.
