Erica Mokay is an American anchor working for KDKA as a morning news co-anchor alongside John Shumway from 7 am to 9 a.m. She joined the KDKA news team in October 2022.
Mokay spent a number of years as a “Gal in Kalamazoo” in Ohio and West Virginia before returning to her hometown. Erica has worked in television news for more than ten years and she is devoted to informing viewers. For her journalistic excellence, she has received a regional Emmy nomination. In addition, she has been on the front lines while covering a number of national stories such as; the tragic shooting on the campus of Michigan State University, the recent, catastrophic train derailment in East Palestine, and the rollout of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine from its West Michigan facility.
Furthermore, Erica had the opportunity to interview and introduce a number of the biggest names in country music to the stage for Jamboree in the Hills. She attended West Virginia University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Television Journalism. In addition, she started her journalism career at WTOV-9 in Steubenville, Ohio where she served as a Kalamazoo for 5 years. Later on, she joined WWMT-Newschannel 3, a CBS affiliate in Michigan and while she was at the station, she covered; Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, and Battle Creek.
While Mokay worked in Michigan she began as the anchor of the weekday morning newscast and not long after, she was promoted to serving as the weeknight anchor at 5, 6, 10, and 11 p.m. Westmoreland County is her native home and she was brought up in Belle Vernon. In addition, she attended West Virginia University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in television journalism in 2012. During Erica’s leisure time, she enjoys spending as much time as she can with her friends, family, and her dog, Lila.
