Mann married Harold Allen Ramis, actor, comedian, and filmmaker in 1989. Ramis is famously known for his role as Egon Spengler in Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989), and as Russell Ziskey in Stripes (1981). He also co-wrote those films. Mann and Ramis had two sons, Julian and Daniel. In May 2010, Ramis lost his ability to walk and experienced problems from autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis after getting an infection. He succeeded in learning to walk again, but in late 2011, the illness returned. Unfortunately, Ramis passed away, at the age of 69, in his Chicago home on February 24, 2014, due to complications from the condition. Murray and Ramis had a falling out while Groundhog Day was being filmed, and Ramis claimed that this was because of issues Murray was going through at the time. For over two decades, they did not communicate.

Bill visited Murray just before he passed away in order to make amends with a box of donuts, encouraged by his brother Brian Doyle Murray. Bill spoke much of the time because Ramis had lost his capacity to speak by this point. Then, at the 86th Academy Awards, Bill paid tribute to Ramis. Ramis received his star on the St. Louis Walk of Fame in 2004. Before he married Mann, Ramis had been in two marriages. In July 1967, he married artist Anne Plotkin with whom he had a daughter, Violet. However, the pair separated in 1984 and later divorced. The following year, in 1985, he had a second daughter Mollie with director Amy Heckerling.
