Erica Byfield Biography
Erica Byfield is an American Emmy Award-winning reporter working for NBC 4 on weekday evenings. She joined the NBC 4 news team in September 2016, after previously working for WSB-TV.
Byfield attended the University of Missouri-Columbia where he graduated in 2005, with a Bachelor of Journalism degree. Erica has also previously worked for KOMU where she served as a fill-in anchor and reporter while she was at MIZZOU. In addition, she also attended Gonzaga University where she earned a master’s degree in Communications and Leadership. The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) recognized Byfield’s reporting of the deadly December 2019 Jersey City shootout. The RTDNA awarded the 2020 National Edward R. Murrow Award to NBC 4 New York for Top Television Newscast.
Over the years, Erica has received a number of awards for her journalistic excellence including three regional Edward R. Murrow Awards. In 2017 she covered the Tribeca terrorist attack that earned her the regional Edward R. Murrow Awards. In addition, for the same coverage, she received two New York Emmy awards and she received a New York Emmy for her NBC 4 New York team coverage of the 2016 Chelsea bombing investigation. Furthermore, Byfield was also named an IRE medal finalist.
Before joining NBC 4 New York in 2016, Erica worked at WSB-TV in Atlanta for six years and while she was at the station, she served as an investigative reporter. Prior to joining WSB-TV in Atlanta, she worked for CBS affiliate KMOV-TV as a general assignment reporter. While she was at the station, she won a Mid-America Emmy for her coverage of local crime. In addition, she has also worked for KFVS-TV in Southwest Missouri where she served as a general assignment reporter for two years. During her spare time, she enjoys traveling and running and she completed her first New York City Marathon in 2017.
