Eric Johnson is an American Emmy-Award Winning anchor working for Komo News as an anchor for the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts. He joined the Komo News team in 1993, after previously working for KGW8.

Eric Johnson Career

Johnson attended the East Valley High School and majored in broadcasting in the Edward R. Murrow School of Communications at Washington State University. Eric commenced his professional broadcasting journey in 1984 at KTVB 7 in Boise, Idaho. He began serving as the station’s weekend sports anchor. Furthermore, he also worked as a sports director at KBCI-TV in Boise, KREM 2 in Spokane, and KGW 8 in Portland.

In 1993, he joined KOMO 4 in Seattle as the weekend sports anchor, eventually taking on the role of sports director in September 1995 following Bruce King’s retirement. Over his 25-year tenure at KOMO, he garnered more than 25 Regional Emmy Awards and received a National Edward R. Murrow Award in 2007 for the best feature story in the country. Known for his popular segment “Eric’s Little Heroes,” which humorously highlighted the athletic endeavors of Seattle-area children in Little League games, he has become a fixture in Seattle sports journalism.

In addition, Eric covered major sports events in Seattle and beyond, including leading coverage of the Seattle Seahawks’ trip to the Super Bowl in 2005. In the latter part of 2006, he transitioned to news anchoring, taking over the 5 p.m. news slot and later anchoring the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts with Mary Nam after Dan Lewis stepped away from the anchor desk in May 2014.
