Eric Horng Biography
Eric Horng is an American reporter who is currently working at ABC 7 Chicago. He joined the ABC 7 Chicago news team in August 2010, as a general assignment reporter.

He has covered many stories such as the November 2013 tornado that devastated Washington, IL, the historic 2011 Chicago blizzard, the Chicago Cubs 2016 World Series championship, and the 2013 Chicago Blackhawks Stanley Cup playoff run. In addition, he was part of ABC 7’s Emmy Award-winning coverage of two major stories: the release of video of the police-involved shooting of Laquan McDonald and the death of Fox Lake police lieutenant Joe Gliniewicz.
Previously, he worked at ABC News where he was a “Good Morning America,” “World News,” and “Nightline.” He also served as a morning fill-in anchor on regular occasions on America This Morning and World News Now. While he worked at ABC News, he covered many major stories such as the 2007 Minneapolis bridge collapse, the Michael Jackson criminal trial in California, Terri Schiavo legal battle in Florida, and the 2008 Northern Illinois University shooting.
In addition, he filed live reports from Louisiana during and after Hurricane Katrina made landfall in 2005. On 2008, election night he filed reports from Chicago’s Grant Park, the site of President Obama’s victory speech. He also worked at CNN where he served as a correspondent before he joined ABC News in 2003.
From 1998 to 2000, he was based in Atlanta, and from 2000 to 2003 he was based in Los Angeles. While he was at CNN, he reported on a number of high-profile stories such as the Shuttle Columbia disaster, the Academy Awards, the Elian Gonzalez custody fight, and the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping case.
Chicago is his birth home and he was later brought up in suburban Darien and Northbrook. He attended Glenbrook North High School where he graduated proudly, Later on, he joined the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he graduated with Bronze Tablet honors which recognize the top three percent of college graduating classes. During his leisure time, he enjoys watching sports and is an avid Chicago sports fan.
