Eric Hanson Biography
Eric Hanson is an American reporter and anchor working at KCCI-TV where he serves as a weekday morning anchor from 4:30 am to 7 am on This is Iowa newscast. He joined KCCI-TV in May 2000, and later in August 2014, he took up the morning anchoring position.
He was brought up on a farm between Roland and Story City and he has resided in Iowa for almost all his life. In 1988, he joined Roland-Story High School where he graduated with a diploma in 1992. Later on, he joined Wartburg College where he earned a double major in Electronic Media and Public Relations in 1996. After he has graduated, he interned at Minneapolis and Waterloo before he was able to secure his first job at WEAU-TV in Eau Claire, Wisconsin where he served as a reporter.
In addition, Eric has also worked at KWWL-TV in Waterloo where he served as a reporter and as a an adjunct professor at his alma mater, Wartburg for a year. Over the years, he has been honored with five national Society for Professional Journalists awards, six Emmy awards, five national Edward R. Murrow awards, a National Headliner award, and many regional and statewide honors. Furthermore, he has traveled to every corner of the country and even to South Africa, Haiti, and England to cover stories.
Eric’s most memorable assignments were focused on the characters who make Iowa a great place to reside in. From the elderly musicians who strum their fiddles in an auto garage to the fraternity brothers who show up unannounced at high school football games, the people of Iowa are the centerpiece of his stories. During his downtime, he is active at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines where he sings in a gospel quintet, cheers for the Chicago Cubs, and completed a quest to visit every Major League Baseball stadium in America.
