Emmanuel Acho is an American sports analyst, former professional football player, and author. He works for Fox Sports 1 as the co-host of Speak for Yourself. He joined the Fox Sports team in June 2020, after previously working for ESPN.

After completing his education at Dallas, Texas’ St. Mark’s School of Texas, Acho earned lettered status in football, basketball, and track and field. As a senior, ESPNU ranked him among the top 150 recruits in the nation and Texas Football’s Dave Campbell as the state’s best linebacker. He set personal bests in the shot put (57-4) and discus (177-3), which is still the school record, in track. He was heavily recruited, but he decided to enroll at Texas University. During his four years at Texas, Acho participated in 48 games, making 26 starts. He was a first-team All-Big 12 linebacker by consensus as a senior (Coaches, AP, Houston Chronicle, San Antonio Express-News, Fort Worth Star-Telegram).
Acho was selected three times for the first team of the Academic All-Big 12 and won the 2010 Arthur Ashe Award. He was also included in the 2011 AFCA Good Works Team. In addition, he was a finalist for the Wuerffel Trophy, Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, and Lott Trophy for college football’s Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year in 2011. Over the course of his four-year career, he recorded 278 tackles (159 solo), 41 TFL, eight sacks, seven forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, two interceptions, 13 PBU, and 26 pressures. In 2011, he led his team in tackles. From the University of Texas at Austin, he earned a degree in sports management in December 2011 and a master’s degree in sports psychology in 2017.
The Cleveland Browns selected Acho in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft. After suffering a leg injury, he was placed on injured reserve, missing the whole 2012 campaign. Acho was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles on April 11, 2013, in exchange for running back Dion Lewis. September 2, 2013, saw his release. Acho signed a contract to join the New York Giants practice squad on September 10, 2013. After Jake Knott was injured, the Philadelphia Eagles signed Acho off the Giants practice squad on October 21, 2013. He saw limited action in six games but recorded his first NFL tackles. After Mychal Kendricks and Jake Knott returned, he was declared inactive for the game. Before the season ended, on December 17, 2013, Acho was waived by the Eagles; however, he signed the following day to the practice squad.
During the off-season, on January 6, 2014, he was re-signed to the team. He was released on August 30, 2014, and the following day, he was added to the Eagles practice squad. On September 9, 2014, Acho was added to the active roster due to Najee Goode’s injury. DeMeco Ryans and Casey Matthews were thrust into a prominent role after Ryans’ season-ending injury in Week 9. He made 31 tackles in 14 games that he participated in. Acho was signed back to the Philadelphia Eagles on November 9, 2015, following his waiver as part of the cuts to 53 due to a thumb injury. However, he did not see any playing time and was released on November 24, 2015, making him a free agent. Jordan Hicks was placed on Injured Reserve with a shoulder injury.
Acho’s NFL career came to an end with this transaction. In 2016, Acho started working as a temporary analyst for the Longhorn Network. That autumn, he was hired as a full-time analyst. He was elevated to ESPN2’s college football coverage in 2018. As one of four hosts of “Cover Four” on the Dallas Cowboys official website, Acho also served as one of four anchors at the Longhorn Network’s Texas Gameday Desk. It was revealed on June 10, 2020, that he would be joining Fox Sports as a co-host of the afternoon studio show Speak for Yourself, taking Jason Whitlock’s place. Acho announced on February 27, 2021, that he would take Chris Harrison’s place as host of The Bachelor’s 25th season “After the Final Rose” Special.
Rachel Lindsay, a friend of his, encouraged him to participate in “Uncomfortable Conversations” and he has received two invitations to compete on The Bachelorette. After co-hosting Speak for Yourself for his first season, Acho was honored with a Sports Emmy for Outstanding Sports Personality/Emerging On-Air Talent on June 8, 2021. Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man, Acho’s digital series, won a PrimeTime Emmy for Outstanding Short Form Nonfiction or Reality Series on September 19, 2021. Acho was positioned as the primary anchor of the rebranded SPEAK, along with two-time Super Bowl champion and six-time Pro Bowler LeSean McCoy, as well as longtime FS1 studio show contributor and host Joy Taylor. In response to George Floyd’s murder, Acho launched the Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man digital series on June 3, 2020, with the goal of “educating and informing on racism, systemic racism, social injustice, rioting, & the hurt Black people are feeling today.” His book of the same name was published by Macmillan Publishers on November 10, 2020. Acho claims that 18,000 copies were sold on the first day of release. The same publisher released an adaptation for younger readers on May 4, 2021, titled Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Boy. and in its first week of release rose to the top of the New York Times bestseller list.
