Fanning portrayed Princess Aurora in the fantasy films Maleficent (2014) and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019). Maleficent has served as the Moors’ protector and guardian throughout the five years after King Stefan’s passing. Aurora has ruled as their queen. Maleficent serves, but Prince Phillip’s native realm of Ulstead views her as evil. Maleficent’s trusting and ferocious companion Diaval hears Phillip making a proposal to Aurora. Maleficent warns against the union after hearing this from him, but Aurora swears to disprove her.

King John and Queen Ingrith, Phillip’s parents, throw a private banquet. When Ingrith mockingly brings up the sleeping curse that was once placed on Aurora and brings up King Stefan’s passing, Maleficent remains composed. Claiming outright that Maleficent killed two human fairy poachers who were last seen close to the Moors Maleficent becomes enraged and appears to curse John when Ingrith denies her bond as a mother to Aurora. John then slips into a deep sleep.

Maleficent says that she did not curse him, but Aurora doesn’t think so. Phillip begs his mother to try kissing the King to rouse him up. Because Ingrith does not love John, she resists and her feeble attempt is unsuccessful. Maleficent is shot by Ingrith’s servant Gerda with an iron bullet as she runs from the castle.
After being hurt, Maleficent falls into the water and is saved by an enigmatic flying creature. She finds herself waking up in a tunnel where she and other fairies have been hiding. Among them are Borra, a warlike fairy who prefers open battle with humans who murdered the poachers near the Moors, and Conall, their calm leader who saved Maleficent.

One of the few Dark Phoenix Fae, strong fairies pushed into hiding and on the verge of extinction by human oppression, is Maleficent. She is also the final descendent of the formidable and old Dark Fae ancestor known as the Phoenix. Conall and Borra think Maleficent is essential to bringing an end to the war or peace with humans because of how strong her magic is.

Although Aurora is pleased that the Moor residents are invited to the royal wedding, she is becoming disillusioned with being an Ulstead noblewoman. When Aurora finds out that Ingrith despises all Moor fairy folk, she becomes enraged, hating their affluence at a time when her country has suffered, and accusing them of being responsible for her brother’s passing. With the help of Lickspittle, a de-winged pixie, and iron weapons and a deadly crimson powder, Ingrith is quietly preparing to destroy all fairies and woodland creatures.

Additionally, Aurora finds out that Ingrith used Maleficent’s ancient cursed spindle to curse John. When Ingrith learns, she locks Aurora up. The Moor folk find themselves confined to the castle’s chapel upon their arrival. At Ingrith’s direction, Gerda discharges the deadly crimson powder by playing the chapel’s organ. In the final moments before Gerda falls to her doom, fairies Knotgrass and Thistlewit manipulate the organ to become unplayable, and the unselfish fairy Flittle gives her life to save everyone.

When the Dark Fae attack Ulstead, soldiers start killing them until Maleficent enters the fight by summoning the power of the Phoenix. She almost kills Queen Ingrith, but Aurora says that only Maleficent is her mother and begs Maleficent’s humanity to spare her. The Queen pulls her crossbow, distracting Maleficent in the process. After saving Aurora, Maleficent is hit by the arrow and turns to ash. Aurora is devastated and laments Maleficent’s passing. However, Maleficent is reborn as a Phoenix as Aurora’s tears fall over the ashes. Terrified, Ingrith flees by hurling Aurora from the tower in an attempt to divert Maleficent’s attention. She is saved by Maleficent. As Ingrith tries to flee, Borra and the other Dark Fae intercept her.

The Ulstead soldiers retreat as Phillip brings about harmony between the fairies and humans. Returning to her fairy form, Maleficent bestows her benediction on Aurora and Phillip. When Maleficent receives it from Lickspittle, she breaks the spindle’s spell and wakes John up. Until she is able to accept the peace between the two peoples, Maleficent turns Ingrith into a goat as retribution for her transgressions. Maleficent and the other Dark Fae return to the Moors after Aurora and Philip get married. She says she will be back for Aurora and Phillip’s future child’s christening.

Eventually, Leo and Molly manage to get into a taxi and leave the apartment. He defies the dentist’s orders and urinates on himself before going to the dentist.
