Ed Curran is an American Emmy-Award Winning meteorologist working for CBS2 Chicago as a meteorologist and reporter. He joined the CBS news team in 2012, after previously working for WIQI FM News.
Curran received his degree from Columbia College and also completed Mississippi State University’s Broadcast Meteorology program in 1977 and 1997 respectively. Along with many successful years in radio at WIND, WGN, WLS, and WGCI, he has also been a versatile television broadcaster. His high-tech reports were seen on WGN-TV’s Morning News, where he also filled in as weather forecaster.
With a background in technology reporting, he was a pioneer in online tech reporting and worked as a technology correspondent for CNN in the year 2000. Curran’s humorous approach and unpredictable style make his segments entertaining for techno-wizards and the techno-clueless alike. This has led him to be recognized and honored with 11 regional Emmy Awards and he holds the American Meteorological Society’s Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal.
As a well-known Chicago broadcaster with years of experience in TV meteorology, technology and automotive reporting, radio news, and talk, Curran enjoys working in the studio, chasing storms in the CBS2 Mobile Weather Lab, and speaking to school groups. He also enjoys playing acoustic and electric guitar and firing up his backyard smoker.
