Gallagher works for CNN as a national correspondent and is based in Charlotte, North Carolina. She currently reports about the holes in election systems across the country, with a focus on election fairness and security as the 2020 presidential election approaches in November. Gallagher spent a lot of 2019 covering elections in places all over the US, both on and off years. She led CNN’s coverage of election fraud in North Carolina’s Ninth Congressional District. This led to a hearing that threw out the results and a close new election that both parties fought hard for months. She spent time in the Bahamas reporting on how terrible things were after Hurricane Dorian.

After the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, Gallagher moved to Florida and spent a month living with the students.
