Gallagher works for CNN as a national correspondent and is based in Charlotte, North Carolina. She currently reports about the holes in election systems across the country, with a focus on election fairness and security as the 2020 presidential election approaches in November. Gallagher spent a lot of 2019 covering elections in places all over the US, both on and off years. She led CNN’s coverage of election fraud in North Carolina’s Ninth Congressional District. This led to a hearing that threw out the results and a close new election that both parties fought hard for months. She spent time in the Bahamas reporting on how terrible things were after Hurricane Dorian.
After the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, Gallagher moved to Florida and spent a month living with the students. He reported live from a bus as the students walked from Parkland to the state capital for the “March for Our Lives” protest. Galagher used to work as a National Security Correspondent in Washington, D.C., where she covered investigations into Russia’s interference in the 2016 U.S. elections, the fight against ISIS, and other defense plans. Galagher spent most of 2016 on the campaign trail. When Donald Trump was crowned the winner of the historic election, he was reporting live from the scene. She has also covered historical events such as the Orlando nightclub killing, police shootings and the protests that followed, and the funerals of both boxing legend Muhammad Ali and Cuban President Fidel Castro.
Gallagher was a lead reporter and morning host for WCNC in Charlotte, NC, before she joined CNN. During her time at WCNC, she won several awards for her work on Charlotte’s security problems and the FBI investigation that led to the mayor’s arrest. She wrote about controversial laws about Voter ID, abortion, gerrymandering, same-sex marriage, and government power while she was covering the state General Assembly. She spent a lot of 2012 covering the presidential race because she worked in a battleground state that was also home to the 2012 Democratic National Convention.
