Derek Togerson Biography

Derek Togerson is an American reporter working for NBC7 San Diego as a sports reporter, anchor, and producer. He joined the NBC 7 news team in 2005, after previously working for San Diego State University.

Togerson graduated from California State University, Fullerton with Bachelor’s in Broadcast Journalism with an English minor in 1997. He then began his professional career as a News Producer at KESQ in the same year and worked with the team for one year and six months. In 1998 He joined KAPP as a sports director, WCAU in 2000 as a Sports producer, KPNX Channel 12 in 2001 as a Sports Reporter, KPNX in 2001 and San Diego Padres in 2016 as a Co-host of Padres Social Hour.

Here he co-hosted and analyzed for Padres Social Hour where San Diego professional baseball as well as MLB was broken down as a whole. In 2016, he was the host of Locked on Charges Podcast which updated Chargers news, analysis, scouting reports, and interviews Monday through Friday. Moving in January 2021, he became the Esports Consultant at San Diego State University. His work included consulting on the launch of the San Diego University Esports Certificate program. This includes the selection of the staff, curriculum, facilities, and marketing.
