Derek Kevra Biography

Derek Kevra is an American meteorologist working for FOX 2 as a weekday meteorologist. He joined the FOX 2 weather team in December 2013, after previously working for WWL-TV.

Livonia is Kevra’s native home and he attended Stevenson High School, Riley Middle School, and Coolidge Elementary. In 1999, he then joined the University of Michigan where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Atmospheric Sciences, and Meteorology in 2007. the American Meteorological Society awarded Derek was awarded the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal. The seal signifies that the holder meets specific educational and experience criteria and that he passed rigorous testing in their knowledge and communication of meteorology and related sciences needed to be an effective broadcast meteorologist.

Furthermore, Kevra has also won many Emmy awards from the National Academy of Television Arts, and Sciences for Best Weathercast in Michigan. For Derek’s internship, he interned at Fox 2 News and later began his career at KDRV in Medford, Oregon. While working at KDRV he served as the morning meteorologist for two years. Later on, he relocated to New Orleans where he worked for WWL-TV as a meteorologist.

In addition, Derek covered severe weather during hurricane season all thanks to studying Tropical Meteorology in school which equipped him. He was live on-air for 24 hours for 5 consecutive days while covering Hurricane Isaac which made landfall less than 100 miles south of New Orleans in 2012. During his free time, he enjoys traveling Up North with his family.
