Demond Fernandez is an American award-winning anchor and reporter working for WDIV as an evening anchor and reporter at 5:30 pm. He joined the WDIV news team in 2023, after previously working for WFAA.
Demond Fernandez Career
Fernandez received his bachelor’s degree in arts from the University of Maryland at College Park. He was raised in Baltimore and was born in Maryland. Before joining the WDIV news team, Fernandez previously worked as a senior reporter for WFAA in Dallas, Texas, where joined in June 2014. There, he covered communities in the southern part of the city and worked in newsrooms in Houston and San Antonio, covering a wide range of regional and national stories.
Fernandez was employed as a weekend anchor, an investigative reporter, and a crime reporter at WEYI in Flint before moving to Texas. There, helped many mid-Michigan residents get positive results when they felt there was no hope. For her investigative reporting that exposed beauty supply stores selling cosmetic contact lenses to children and adults in mid-Michigan without authorization, Fernandez was awarded a Michigan Association of Broadcasters Award.
Also, he has won multiple accolades from civic and neighborhood associations in recognition of his reporting on crimes and dedication to volunteer work. Fernandez’s journalism career started in FOX 47, in Lansing, Michigan, where he worked as a general assignment reporter. In addition, he is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and The Iota Zeta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
