David Muir Biography
David Muir is an American anchor working for ABC World News as a News Anchor. He joined the ABC News team in August 2003, after previously working for WCVB as an anchor and reporter.
David Muir Career
Muir worked as an anchor and reporter at Syracuse, New York’s WTVH-TV from 1994 to 2000. He received the highest accolades from the Radio-Television News Directors Association for his reporting from Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Israel, and the Gaza Strip after Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated in 1995. Muir received awards from the Associated Press for Best Television Interview and Best Enterprise Reporting. He worked as an anchor and reporter for Boston’s WCVB television from 2000 to 2003. For his work tracking down the hijackers responsible for the September 11, 2001 attacks, he was recognized with the National Headliner Award, the regional Edward R. Murrow Award, and other honors from the Associated Press. His reporting and news anchoring were acknowledged by the Associated Press as well.
Muir began working for ABC News in August 2003, initially as the anchor of the World News Now overnight newscast. Additionally, he was appointed host of World News This Morning (America This Morning), an early morning show on ABC News. Muir became the anchor of World News Saturday in June 2007. He co-anchored Primetime, a news magazine, in 2006 and appeared on the show occasionally after that. World News with David Muir was the name of the weekend newscast that Muir began anchoring in February 2012. A boost in the Saturday evening programs’ ratings has been tacitly attributed to Muir. Muir was elevated to co-anchor ABC’s 20/20 alongside Elizabeth Vargas in March 2013.

Muir has introduced the series to other TV shows, such as The View on ABC, where he has appeared as a guest co-host. Muir reported from inside Iran in January 2013, just before the nuclear talks.[18] Muir was the first journalist from the West to cover the famine in Mogadishu, Somalia. ABC News declared on June 27, 2014, that Muir would take over for Diane Sawyer as managing editor and host of ABC World News. September 1, 2014, marked Muir’s first broadcast appearance. For the first time since September 7, 2009, “World News Tonight with David Muir” surpassed NBC Nightly News to take the top spot in the nation’s primetime newscast rankings in April 2015. After releasing a year-long study on the heroin pandemic in America in March 2016, Muir was recognized with a CINE Golden Eagle Award for his reporting. The position of lead anchor for ABC News’ breaking news and special event coverage was taken over by Muir in 2021; GMA anchor George Stephanopoulos held it from 2014 to 2020.
