David Chandley Biography
David Chandley is an American meteorologist working at FOX 5 Atlanta where he serves as the Chief Meteorologist and can be seen during the 5, 6, 10, and 11 pm newscast. He joined the FOX 5 Atlanta team in January 2015, after previously working at WSB-TV.
For 35 years, he chased the weather in Georgia before relocating to Atlanta. In 1980, he joined The University of Georgia where he studied advance broadcast journalism and graduated in 1984. Later in 1987, he joined Mississippi State University where he earned a certificate in broadcast meteorology in 1989. Chandley is also an AMS-certified meteorologist and he holds the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist from the American Meteorological Society which is the highest mark of distinction and recognition available in broadcast meteorology.
In addition, his broadcast career has enabled him to travel all over Georgia and he has made stops in Columbus, Albany, and Macon, and for over 25 years, he worked at WSB in Atlanta. For 13 times, he received the Associated Press Best Weather Reporting Award. Together with his wife Lynn, they decided in Brookhaven. Furthermore, while he was at UGA, he served as a student trainer and member of the 1980 National Championship Football Team.
During his spare time, he enjoys working out, golfing, biking the Atlanta Beltline, walking, and spending ample time with his family. At Passion City Church he is a DoorHolder and over the years, he has worked with many Atlanta organizations such as Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Atlanta Community Food Bank, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Camp Fire Boys, and Girls, and Gwinnett County Schools.
