David Bromstad is an American designer and television personality who rose to fame after winning the debut season of HGTV Design Star. He has also hosted several HGTV shows, such as Color Splash, Beach Flip, and My Lottery Dream Home.

Bromstad was always interested in art and design. While attending Wayzata High School decided to pursue a career as a Disney animator. He studied in Sarasota, Florida’s Ringling College of Art and Design, which is regarded as a jumping-off point for Disney jobs. Bromstad was employed as a Disney illustrator upon graduation. He founded his own business, Bromstad Studio, after being put on leave from his position as an illustrator for Disney. Bromstad came to Miami Beach at the encouragement of a friend, where she tested out for HGTV’s Design Star, a reality show competition to select a host for a new show on the cable network.
Bromstad faced out against nine other aspiring designers on Design Star, taking home the big prize of a car and the opportunity to host his own HGTV program. In 2007 and 2012, he was the host of Color Splash on HGTV. During the first episode of the second season of HGTV Design Star, Bromstad made an appearance as a guest judge and offered the finalists in “Challenge 7: Island Dreams” spiritual support. In Season 6, he served as a mentor, and in Season 7, he hosted. He was the host of Design Star All-Stars in 2012. Along with designer Tiffany Brooks, he participated in the second season of Rock the Block and made an appearance on HGTV’s Design at Your Door. In addition, he has made appearances on Bang for Your Buck, HGTV Showdown, and HGTV’d. In 2015, Bromstad began hosting My Lottery Dream Home.
