Dave Summers Biography
Dave Summers is an American reporter working for NBC 7 San Diego as a tenured news and investigative reporter on the NBC 7 News at 4, 5, 6 and 11PM. He joined the NBC 7 news team in April 2013, after previously working for WKYC-TV3.
Dave Summers Career
Summers graduated from Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism. While in college he was the Organizer and President of the first RTNDA student Chapter, SPJ member and Lantern Staff Reporter. He then began his professional career as a reporter and Special Project Investigations at WJW-FOX8 in January 1997. Here, he was the Lead Story Reporter responsible for enterprising unique story angles, exclusive interviews and advancing stories in the later shows. He was with the team for three years before moving to NBC affiliate WKYC in Cleveland.
As an Investigative reporter and anchor, for the Target-3 I-team. He was responsible for leading big story coverage with demonstrative live shots and exclusive information and interviews. In addition to that, he also anchored responsibilities on all afternoon evenings and late shows. With years of honing his craft in enterprising unique story angles and being the ‘go to’ reporter when it came to live reporting on major stories. This led him to KNSD-NBC7 in 2013 as an Investigative Reporter, Lead Story Reporter and anchor. He is responsible for generating exclusive material and big story coverage as the main bar reporter for the 11 pm show.
Additionally, he has belonged to multiple news organizations including Investigative Reporters and Editors, San Diego and Cleveland Ohio Press Clubs, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the Society for Professional Journalists. Moreover, he has been recognized and awarded multiple Investigative journalism awards in southwest region Emmy competitions, Society of Professional Journalism contests and San Diego Press Club.
The long list of accolades there includes twenty-two journalistic awards. Six Emmys, ‘Best Reporter in Ohio’ four times from the Society of Professional Journalists, another ‘Best Reporter in Ohio’ from the Ohio Associated Press, and eleven ‘Best Reporting’ Awards from the Cleveland Press Club.
